Experimental Observations on Adrenal Glands and Their Activities in Spayed Albino Rats

Abstract
The rats of each group were, observed for 30, 60 and 90 days after oophorectomy and exposed to -!stresses for 15 days. Results of the adrenal function in each group were as follows.
1) The average body weight of spayed rats were slightly heavier than that of the control group during 60 days that followed oophorectomy, and -after that it became lighter.
During the 15 days of stress in which an injecton of 3% formalin was given every other day and electric shock every: days, the, body. weight of the normal group. increased continuously But in ¢¥the oophorectomized group, the body weight either; decreased or stopped increasing in proportion to the length of period from the time of. oophorectomy,
2) Circulating eosinophil.level gradually but distinctly increased after oophorectomy, and alter 90 days, the level increased nearly two times the pre-oophorectomy level.
3) In both groups of normal rats, to which 3 % formalin injections and electric shocks were given, eosinophil decreased to approximately 40% of the normal level on the first day, but it returened to normal on the second and third_ day. However, in the oophorectomized rat groups, in proportion to the length: of periods from oophorectomy, the reduction and restoration of eosinophil under stresses were not remarkable.
4) As electric shocks were repeated in the normal group, the reduction rate of the eosinophils dimi nished and the restoration was rapidly completed But in the group to which formalin injections
were given, the reduction rate of eosinophils increased and the recovery was ¢¥prolonged. In the spayed group which was given both stresses, such, tendencies were not found.
